Game Recap

Anderson Varsity baseball closed their short week between Spring Break and the Easter Holiday with back-to-back district victories over Del Valle Cardinals and Kyle Lehman Lobos. These 2 victories move the Trojans into 4th place in District 14-6A.

Hannah George of the Anderson Trojan Band played the National Anthem to  a delighted home crowd.

Joe Deitz, junior RHP, started on the mound for the Trojan’s home match-up against Kyle Lehman Lobos. Lobos scored only 1 run, unearned, and that was in the 1st inning. Deitz faced the minimum batters in his last 4 innings. Congratulations, Joe, on a complete game!

Offensively, the 4th inning was most profitable for the Trojans when they strung together back-to-back hits from DaeGun Jung and Ben Kurio. Sam Clark laid down a perfect bunt toward 1st scoring the Trojan’s first run. James Baran’s line drive to left field cleared the bases. Zack Blackburn attempted to continue the hitting streak with a well hit ball to left center, but an excellent defensive catch by Cardinal’s Stanaland ended the Trojan’s scoring. The following inning Coach Prather continued pressuring the Lobos’ defense by signaling junior Evan Breckenridge to execute a bunt, which brought home the 4th run.

Senior DaeGun Jung had a productive week for the Trojans at short-stop with error free fielding and on-base percentage of 100%.  Great playing, DaeGun!

The Trojans do not play again until Friday, April 1st, 5pm @ Burger Center when they face Austin High in a must win district game. On Saturday, the Trojans have a non-district game against neighborhood rivals McCallum Knights at Nelson field at 12pm.

Game Recap

The Friday night game between Akins and the Trojans was rescheduled due to the recent rain in the area. On Saturday evening, Nelson Field was in great shape for the match up. Many baseball alumni and their families were in attendance with the ex-players returning home from college for Spring Break. It was good to see Hank Journeay, Stephen Salinas, Joey Menke and Kirby Hill. We are glad they dragged their parents along, too!

Griffin Tyler

To begin the event, Anderson’s Griffin Tyler performed the National Anthem. Thank you, Griffin!

Coach Prather selected junior RHP Joe Deitz to pitch in the Trojan’s first outing against the Akins Eagles. Deitz was able to pitch a complete game. For Akins, on the mound was junior LHP, Jason Porter, who also pitched a complete game. The game went scoreless for 5 innings. The pitchers were in top form and the defense on both sides nearly flawless.

In the 6th inning, Akins threatened in the top with a lead off double, but Joe Deitz

Joe Deitz

was able to strike out the next two batters. Then senior Daegun Jung executed a highlight-reel play at short stop with a bullet throw to 1st base for the 3rd out of the inning.

In the bottom of the 6th, the Mitchell brothers both connected for singles. Senior Sam Clark’s 8-pitch QAB base-on-balls loaded the bases while Jack Kurio’s base-on-balls gave the Trojan’s their only run.

The Trojans held the lead in the top of 7th with Joe Deitz returning to finish the game supported by error free defense from Ben Caven at 2nd base and Sam Clark at 3rd.

Good job, Joe, on a complete game and victory for the Anderson Trojans!

The entire Trojan baseball squad sees activity this Spring Break. All three teams face Hays on Tuesday. For the Junior Varsity teams, it is a home double-header starting at 3pm. The Varsity travels to Hays. Then on Wednesday, the Junior Varsity double-header is away at Lake Travis, while Lake Travis comes to Nelson Field to meet our Varsity Trojans.

Game Recap

Freshly arrived home from the 50th state where they watched their eldest son, Jackson, pitch for West Virginia, the Sigmans witnessed their youngest son, Walker, ’17 RHP, pitch a victorious, complete game against district rivals, Bowie Bulldogs.

Walker Sigman
Walker Sigman

Bowie placed Noah Walker, ’16 RHP Texas State University, on the mound to face the Trojans.  He proved as tough as expected with Trojans earning only 2 hits off of him, both by S Mitchell, ’16 McLennan CC.

Both teams had errors early with overthrows to first base but then settled down with some excellent defensive plays on both sides. Neither team mounted an offensive threat until the 6th inning when both teams put men in scoring position. Sigman successfully pitched his way out of bases loaded with an outstanding individual performance of two consecutive strike outs.

For Bowie, Cole Brooks came in relief in the 7th. The Dawgs struggled with control; the scorebook showing hit-batter for Sigman, walk for S Clark and mishandled bunt for B Caven scoring the Trojans’ first run, M Asubiario, pinch runner.

Sam Mitchell
Sam Mitchell

B Kurio and D Jung had quality-at-bats which resulted in walks, loading the bases and bringing in the Trojan’s second RBI. Bowie was forced to once again change pitchers. Brock Case pitched out of the trouble. In the bottom of the 7th, the Dawgs went quietly.

Congratulations on a complete game, Walker Sigman! Congratulations to the Trojan Varsity squad for an important district victory.

The Trojans play again this week against Akins Eagles, Friday, 3/11, 7:30pm @ Nelson Field. The baseball team will play 2 district games during the Spring Break week.

Game Recap

The Langerhans-Bratcher Invitational finished strong as Trojans Varsity Baseball defeated the Round Rock Westwood Warriors, 7-1. Their tournament record was 3-2 with wins over McNeil, Kingwood Park and Westwood and defeats to San Antonio MacArthur and Round Rock.

Nash Norris, RHP Sophomore, started on mound for Anderson in the match up against Nash_NorrisWestwood. In the early innings, Westwood’s starting pitcher struggled with control, walking and hitting several Trojans. Prather called bunt for three consecutive batters, causing the Warriors to scramble defensively. Timely hit by J Rugeley brought home two more runs giving the Trojans an early 5 run lead that would hold.  Norris proved effective on the mound keeping the Warriors to 1 run.  Sam Clark came in to close.

JV1 saw action at Akins High School. They lost close games to AISD rivals Akins and Bowie but defeated Lockhart.

JV2 hosted their home tournament with full flair: music blaring, grilling hotdogs, all enjoying the lovely weather and good baseball. JV2 swept their tournament, defeating Rouse, Hutto, Westwood and Lago Vista.

All three teams face the AISD rival Bowie Bulldogs this week. See the schedules at trojanpride.net/baseball

Game Recap

Anderson Trojans’ bats silenced by Westlake’s Cruz.

DSC_0151Walker Sigman, RHP, junior of Anderson Trojans took the mound in the Trojans’ season opener. Diego Cruz, LHP, senior of Westlake Chaps faced off from the other side. The Trojans were able to muster only a single hit off Cruz, limiting the offensive attack. Sigman held strong for 5 2/3 innings with Joe Deitz coming in to close the game.  The Trojans’ defense allowed only 2 runs, but 2 runs were all the Chaps needed in this game to take the season opener from the Trojans and their home crowd.

Trojans next action is in the Langerhans-Bratcher Tournament this weekend.

Game Recap

Opening the 2016 Season with the Round Rock Rock Hard Ball Tournament, the Anderson Trojans Varsity complete the tournament with a 3-1-1 record.

After tying McNeil (4-4) in extra innings, losing to Temple (6-7) and defeating both Midland (8-7) and L.D. Bell (7-0), the varsity squad looked forward to a match up with ranked Southlake Carroll.

James Baran
James Baran

Coach Prather pitched J Baran against Southlake Carroll’s powerhouse bats. For 6 innings, Baran successfully stymied their batters with his left-handed delivery. S Clark, the Trojan’s seasoned closer, came in for successful relief work. Kudos to J Baran for an early season six innings.

On offense, the Trojans manufactured their first of two runs in the top of the first inning. S Mitchell reached on a walk, stole second and was driven home by A Mitchell. After that run, both teams were unable to score as the two left handed pitchers battled. The baseball was played error free on both sides. For the Trojan second run, A Mitchell reached on a single, moved to second on a mishandled pick off attempt and was driven in by J Kurio single to right.

Anderson Varsity play their first district game on Tuesday, March 1st, 7pm at Nelson Field against Westlake High School. Come out and watch!
