This past week signaled the start of the Anderson baseball season. Teams were announced on February 1st, and on Saturday the players participated in the annual Hit A Thon. Also, on Saturday was the first Anderson Baseball Alumni game. The baseball program hopes this Alumni game will be an annual event, too.
Alumni who participated in this very first Anderson Baseball Alumni game included Ryan Bailey (2005), James Baran (2017), Jaime Borgman (2003), Todd Darby (1985), Kevin Garrett (2001), Marcus Green (2006), Kyle Gunderson (2003), Dustin Johnson (2007), Rud Nast (2001), Jeff Randle (2002), Michael Rhea (1986), Thomas Robinson (2005) and Zach Weichert (2005). Thank you for coming!
The Alumni, Varsity and Junior Varsity were mixed on two teams called the Blue and the Pinstripes. Pitchers were asked to work two innings. On defense, the alumni were scattered throughout the field including some pitching duty covered by Michael Rhea. On the offense, the highlight was a 3 RBI bomb by Dustin Johnson for the Pinstripes. MVP for the Blue was Kyle Gunderson, who went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. MVP for the Pinstripes was Dustin Johnson.
The Hit A Thon consisted of the players hitting by class. The longest hit ball was by Jake Rugeley (2018) clearing the left-center field fence at 350 feet. During the Hit A Thon and the Alumni game, the Booster Club organized a silent auction with donated items.
Scrimmages begin Monday, February 5th. Visit andersontrojanbaseball.com for all things baseball at Anderson.
