L C Anderson High School
The Anderson Trojans opened up their District 14-6A schedule with a victory over the Manor Mustangs. Trey Lundquist hit five different receivers completing 15 of 22 passes for 288 yards, 3 TDs, and only 1 INT. Jacob Graves caught 2 passes for 90 yards including an 88 yard TD and also threw a 42 yard TD to James Baran off of a reverse pass. Baran also added 6 catches and 76 receiving yards to go along with the TD. Riley McCarty led the Trojan ground attack with 102 yards on 12 carries and a TD to close the game in the 4th Quarter. The Trojan defense forced 6 turnovers (4 fumbles and 2 INTs), gave up no passing TDs, and allowed only 95 yards through the air to the Mustangs.
Trey Lundquist and the Trojans came out firing right away as a 46 yard TD pass to Dean Dixon opened up a 7-0 lead for Anderson. The Trojans opened up a 14-0 lead in the second quarter with an 88 yard TD bomb from Lundquist to Graves. Manor responded on a 4th down and 2 from their own 41 when RB Kenny Miller broke multiple tackles on his way to a 59 yard TD run. After Andre Jackson recovered a muffed punt, the Trojan offense took over deep in Manor territory and Lundquist found Haden Buckman for a 20 yard score, his 3rd TD pass of the game. Manor put together a drive and punched in a 5 yard rushing TD to trim the Trojan lead to 21-14. Anderson answered once again ona trick play as Jacob Graves found fellow receiver James Baran on a reverse pass for a 42 yard TD to end the half up 28-14.
Manor started the 3rd quarter with the ball and looking to cut into the Anderson lead. They turned to Miller and he responded by breaking tackles on his way to a 40 yard score. 28-21 was all the closer that Manor would get. The Trojan defense made key stops on each Manor drive to preserve the lead. The 4th quarter continued the defensive showdown of the second half until time was winding down late in the quarter. With time running down, LB Nathaniel Velez took a mishandled snap 76 yards to the house giving Anderson a 35-21 cushion. The defense held strong again and the offense looked to make their mark on the second half. A 50 yard run by Riley McCarty set up his own 5 yard TD run and punctuated a 42-21 point win for the Trojans.
The win puts the Trojans at 2-4 overall and 1-0 in district play. The Trojans will host the Akins Eagles Friday night at House Park in Anderson’s homecoming game.
