The Trojans came out firing as Trey Lundquist hit Jacob Graves in stride for a 74 yard TD strike on the first play from scrimmage. An early fumble forced by the Trojan defense gave the offense great field position setting up a 22 yard rushing TD by sophomore RB Coy Fullmer. An Austin High field goal ended the first quarter 14-3 in favor of the Trojans.
A 4 yard TD run by Riley McCarty and a two-point conversion early in the 2nd quarter by James Baran created a 22-3 advantage for the Trojans. Things quickly got chippy and the Trojans suffered 2 ejections. Austin High ended the 2nd quarter with two TDs to Josuaa Jacobs and a field goal closing the gap to 22-20 heading into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, it was anyone’s game. Austin High added a 52 yard TD from Muhammad to Diaz capping a 24-0 run. Trey Lundquist and the Trojan offense responded and drove down the field. Lundquist showed off some athleticism with a QB keeper for a 19 yard run to the end zone to regain the lead at 28-27 heading into the 4th quarter after a missed two-point conversion.
The Maroons opened up the 4th quarter with a reverse to Jacobs giving him his third TD of the night and a 33-28 lead after a missed two-point conversion. With plenty of time left, the Trojans stuck with the ground game and the two headed backfield of McCarty and Fullmer. Riley McCarty gashed the Maroons up the middle for a 46 yard score and added the two-point conversion himself. Fullmer was determined to match his running mate and broke multiple tackles on a 29 yard TD run up the middle that gave the Trojans a 43-33 cushion with time running down. Austin High made things interesting with a 64 yard TD pass from Khalyl Muhammad but a failed onside kick allowed the Trojans to expire the clock with a few first downs and preserve a 43-40 victory.
