If you miss out on the Gold Bracket, you might as well win the Silver bracket, right?
That’s just what those feisty Anderson Trojans did on Saturday, dropping nary a set as they cruised to a Championship Game win over Giddings.
After nine grueling sets of action on Friday, in far north San Antonio (Akins High School), the Trojans squared off against old district opponent Austin High, in a “rivalry renewal.” Shaking off a few early-morning serving hiccups, the Trojans downed the Maroons 25-18, 25-23.
Next up was Poth, a venerable volleyball program from southeast of San Antonio, fresh off a three-set defeat of Cedar Ridge, who defeated our short-handed Trojans last Tuesday night in our sultry gym. The Trojans disarmed the Pirates 25-18, 25-18 with a withering assault of broadsides that kept the bigger Poth girls on their heels.
The Silver bracket finals saw the Trojans lined up against a Buffaloes squad eager to shed their image as bulky, lumbering grass-eaters. But there would be no stopping the rolling Trojans, who hunted down the Buffaloes 25-18, 25-19, to capture the Championship.
Congratulations to Coach Byers and MVPs Kristina Fisher and Rachel Snead, for leading a sterling all-around effort, with important contributions from across the board.
