ANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL—- The Anderson Trojans make a statement in a 64-48 victory against the Akins Eagles on their home floor.
The Trojans controlled the game right from tip-off. Colin Frame scored on Anderson’s opening possession and the Trojans never looked back. Andrew Foster added 6 points in the first quarter helping the Trojans to an 18-8 opening quarter lead. The Trojans shared the ball well early on as 8 different Trojans scored in the first half. Sharing the ball led to strong offense resulting in a 34-24 Anderson lead at the break. In the 3rd quarter, the Trojans didn’t let off the gas and outscored Akins 21-12 behind 8 points from Frame. Trevor McManis scored 6 of his game high 16 points in the 4th quarter to assure a Trojan victory 64-48. The game served as a major confidence booster for a Trojans squad looking to shake off back to back district losses. The Trojans connected rotations on defense and forced Akins out of rhythm which allowed them to maintain a double digit lead most of the night. It was a true team effort for Anderson as well, all 14 Trojans played and 9 of them scored. Andrew Foster, Colin Frame, and Trevor McManis all scored in double figures. M. Johnson led the Eagles with 13 points.
The team’s 64 points were tied the most they’ve scored in district play. This is an encouraging sign as they head to Hays for a matchup with the Rebels, who they beat 64-51 at Anderson in December. Anderson now stands at 6-3 in district play. -Lucas Vargas, Student Reporter
